I’m feeling very down about the route Hollyoaks are taking at the moment, particularly the way they’ve taken Brendan’s character; he now feels aimless and unmotivated and we don’t know what he’s thinking. What made Brendan such a legend and such a beautifully crafted character was his massive contradiction of being so ‘hard’ and ‘bad’ but having this real weakness when it came to Stephen. They are failing to play that side of him at the moment. Now he’s just bad. One-dimmensional. We’ve lost the human side that we could all connect to; that love for Ste and his fear and self-loathe when addressing it. I hope they don’t continue with this aimless rambling of his character, because for me it shows in the writing that HO don’t really know WHO Brendan is anymore or WHAT drives him. His character is taking daft and uncalled for U-turns, like with Joel. It’s all unjustified. It’s not Brendan; his character isn’t ticking in the same way he used to.

I have to keep believing all this randomness is done because they’re hastily setting up a long-term story-arc. Otherwise I don’t want to be a part of this anymore. 

Anyway, after all those angsty words, I’ll just go and look at these beautiful pictures of Brendan and the person who makes him such a wonderful character.
